Pump Control Valve

The Model 740-Q Pump Control Valve, Booster Type is an automatic control valve designed to be installed on the discharge of a booster pump to prevent pressure surges caused by the starting and stopping of the pump.

It is a pilot controlled, hydraulically operated, diaphragm actuated globe valve in either the oblique (Y) or angle pattern design.

The Model 740-Q Pump Control Valve operates independently of valve differential pressure. The double chambered diaphragm actuator always has full differential pressure to develop maximum power and immediate reaction. A 3-way solenoid pilot valve either applies upstream pressure to the upper control chamber to close the main valve or vents the upper control chamber to atmosphere allowing the main valve to open.

The solenoid and a limit switch assembly on the main valve are electrically synchronized with the pump controls to allow the pump to start and stop while the valve is closed thus eliminating any pressure surges. The pump starts against a closed valve which begins to open slowly as the solenoid is energized with the pump.

The 740-Q opens to allow maximum flow with minimal head loss. When the pump is signaled to stop, the solenoid is de-energized causing the main valve to close against the running pump. As the valve is about to close the limit switch is activated which causes the pump to stop.

In the event of a power failure the Model
740-Q Pump Control Valve will close immediately, regardless of the operational mode of the valve at the time of the power failure. A unique system of hydraulic check valves provides this quick closure to prevent pump damage.

The solenoid pilot valve can be supplied in various voltages and NEMA ratings.
